The air is as cold as glass

We are truly settled in to NY now. We called out for ‘take outs’ on the first night. Will stumbled around to the nearest shop and bought whatever they were selling for our first breakfast. We were excited to recognise the word ‘cereal’ on the box. Then we found the Gourmet Garage had a choice of ย food – even though no-one knew what ‘tahini’ was. We also had to speak slowly as our requests were met generally with, ‘whah’? Like little amoebas we slurped and sloshed our way out into the real world. Now, day 4, ย baby we have found the Grower’s Markets with organic free trade produce. Plus we found the Whole Food Markets in Columbus Circle which has Dali Sculptures dotted around the foyer – real ones.

Art as you shop.

We now feel very set for Christmas if we end up eating at home. We also found a cool wine shop and the best art shop ever on 57th. We did all our Christmas shopping in 30 minutes. We will be back there Boxing Day sales with BOTH our coles bags. We will also be at The Barnes and Noble closing down sale on Broadway – yes, we will buy another suitcase. Will and I came here with one bag for just this purpose ๐Ÿ™‚

Ask Marcel when all the Starbucks, there is one on every corner, are open. He knows which ones open at 5.30am and which ones close at 12am. How come? Free wi-fi for skyping.

For information on Starbucks' opening and closing times in the area, contact Marcel.

Make sure you fill those Coles shopping bags right up. Shop until you drop!
Dali Sculptures in a shopping mall, wow! Nice to know you can combine shopping with a bit of artistic experience!
Don’t drink too much coffee Marcel when at Starbucks, it could become addictive.
Have fun guys, stay warm too.

Missing you guys but it sounds like you are having a great time… i think the limousine was a good start!

Brrr, and that’s the weather here ย *^(:’)
Did you manage to find a cereal WITHOUT added sugar? I hear Americans love their sweet breakfast cereals. (Rosalie: did you manage to find coco-pops? Bryce: Hmn, I suspect they would LOVE that one if it wasn’t there already! ๐Ÿ˜€ )
Bryce: Re wine shop – wouldn’t they all be cool in weather there??? }:>
Rosalie: How are you surviving without tahini? ๐Ÿ˜ฅย
By the way Marcel – careful with the WiFi – we hear Starbucks are in financial difficulties – don’t use too much free time without buying a coffee or 2 ๐Ÿ˜‰
    Have fun ๐Ÿ™‚ 8)

Dear All, I found tahini and the best art store ever on 57th. We bought our Christmas gifts for each other (we fo Kris Kringle) in about 30 minutes ๐Ÿ™‚ Happy possum now. I think the Europeans are the worst – there were chunks of chocolate in the cereals there. Here is is a very rich area and the food is very organic and free trade oriented. We feel like we live here rather than feeling like tourists. Marcel did ask me for a coffee because he was worried about being kicked out of Starbucks on wi-fi but honestly, all the people in the cafe were on computers. That is why they lose money – no-one orders anything or it is just coffee. Love Lis

Good to hear you have not lost the art of ‘not shopping’ Lis. Glad to have been there for the training for it (in China). Plus you are doing your bit for the American economy, enjoy ๐Ÿ™‚
